Activity Details:

Discover the many ways to represent a person’s persona through symbolic reference and design! In this mixed media class, young artists will be challenged to create portraits through a variety of 2D and 3D art projects. After a series of brainstorming and sketching exercises, they will experiment with art’s fundamental elements including scale, color, and texture. As the week progresses, artists will explore color theory and paint mixing. Teaching Artists will introduce students to contemporary portrait artists such as Mickalene Thomas, Cindy Sherman, Amy Sherald, and Elia Alba. This class will develop young artists’ techniques in portraiture using various media. 9-10AM DROP OFF:Check in. An hour of open activities before class. 10AM–4PM CLASS:Lunch break at 12 PM, supervised outdoor play. 4-5PM PICK UP:Parents check in before picking up. One hour of open activities after class. $25 late pickup fee after 5pm
