Museum Events

  1. The Rubin Museum – Family Sundays: Fire Bird Masks and Lanterns
    Rubin Museum Family Sundays
    • Who: Children ages 3 and up
    • What: Themed family-friendly crafty and artsy activities allowing children to explore their creativity. They can even take home their work after creating their masterpiece. Different themes every month –  “Treasures on Earth” (April), “Transcendent Tales” (May), “Spectacular Starscapes” (June), and “Inner Voyages” (July).

  2. A Closer Look for Kids at MoMA
    • Who: Ages 5-10 with parent/caregiver
    • What: A unique opportunity for children and parents to engage in lively discussions and fun activities while examining modern and contemporary art. Introducing a new theme every month!
    • When: Saturday, May 5th 10:20 am
    • Where: Museum of Modern Art (11 W. 53rd St., New York, New York)

    • *Note: Free for individual families of up to two adults and up to three kids. Additional adults $25, seniors (65+ with ID) $18, students $14, member guests $5. Free tickets distributed on a first-come, first-served basis beginning at 10:00 am the day of the program at the information desk in the Education and Research building (4 West 54th St.)

Festivals

  1. Urban Wildlife Festival
    • Who: All ages
    • What:Join NYC Parks, the Urban Park Rangers, and the Fort Tryon Park Trust at the Urban Wildlife Festival to get up close and personal with owls, hawks, porcupines, tortoises, and more at this free festival in Highbridge Park.

      Learn about their traits and behaviors from New York State licensed rehabilitators and the Urban Park Rangers. Come and enjoy relay races, animal-themed arts and crafts, a free puppet show performed by the City Parks PuppetMobile, and dance to the sounds of live music from Shine and the Moonbeams!

  2. Lift Off: A Waterfront Kite Festival
    • Who: Children ages 5+
    • What: Kite festival uniting S.T.E.A.M. concepts and outdoor adventures. Children

      learn all about the science of flight through kite-flying and experiments; build parachutes and test them in wind tunnels; sample the air’s environment; learn about robotic air propellers and air circulation; and design and create their own rocket, hand kite, and pinwheel!

  3. MaMaPaLooZa @Summer On The Hudson
    • Who: All ages
    • What: Festival featuring music, family-focused vendors, wellness activities, art, & activism. Theme is “SING OUT SISTER” with mothers and the people who love them inspires all to find their voice and bring a message of peace, tolerance, and equality. Fierce FEMINISTS as well as FAMILIES of all shapes, sizes, and backgrounds WELCOME. Interested EXHIBITORS musical performances by students, and an International Cafe!     • Who: All ages
    • What: Come celebrate the start of summer at PS 84 with fun events like rides, crafts, musical performances by students, and an International Cafe!

  2. Columbia Greenhouse Nursery School Spring Fair
    • Who: All ages
    • What: This fair will be filled with games, rides, animals, and family fun! Come for pony rides, great food, and a community-wide rummage sale.

Parent/Children Mixers

  1. Shababa Saturdays
    • Who: Children ages 6 months-10 years
    • What: This is an event intended for children to explore traditional and non-tradition music, creative art projects, movement, and more.
    • When: Saturday, May 5th 10:30 am (Every Saturday at 10:30 until May 26)

  2. ECNS Etc. Presents… Baby Mixers!
    • Who: Children ages 0-6 months with parent/caregiver
    • What: Drop-in and play at the 2100 square foot, brightly colored and child-safe gym, age appropriate gym equipment like the slide, balance beam, rollers and in-ground trampoline, and tons of fun toys. Being in the gym builds coordination and body awareness, boosts gross motor development, and provides a social experience, all while having fun! Parents and babies 0-6 months are invited to ECNS’s baby-friendly gym every Friday from 10-11 am. Come meet and chat with other parents while your baby explores our safe environment, plays with toys, or just relaxes.

Game, Story and Movie Time

  1. Storytime at “Books Are Magic”
    • Who: All ages

      Story time NYC Manhattan kids
    • What: Authors read children their humorous, heart-warming, and educational picture books in Books Are Magic, a charming independent children’s bookstore.

  2. Itty Bitty Book Buddies at Epiphany Library
    • Who: Children ages 0-12 months
    • What: A brand new baby lapsit program for pre-walking book buddies! This is a  short program involving less movement, and all songs and rhymes promote interaction between caregivers and babies.

  3. Movies For Tots at Kips Bay Library
