Playful Literacy is a two-hour play-based literacy class that incorporates the whole-body in movement and games to learn reading readiness skills and get kids motivated to read! Our preschool class for 3 - 4 year olds focuses on self-regulation, active listening skills, learning the Alphabet song as well as early identification of base letters and sounds. Classes will incorporate "brain breaks" consisting of snack and open-ended play time to encourage socialization among new friends. Playful Literacy is run by pediatric speech-language pathologists and reading specialists trained in Orton-Gillingham methods. Classes are kept small with a teacher to student ratio of 1:5 to provide focused yet fun instruction. Sign-ups are on a weekly basis to encourage building of skills each class. Classes comes with an e-book of specific activities and exercises to hone pre-literacy skills at home. Curriculums designed by pediatric speech-language pathologist, Frida Matute.
